The 500 Best Food Tech Companies Show Us The Future Of What We Eat

Food and technology are two hot topics in this era, and the 500 companies are here to show us how they combine the two. Inspired by the Fortune 500, Forward Foods introduced the Foodtech 500 earlier this month - a list of global talents in the fields of food, technology, and sustainability.

Forward Fooding is a network of entrepreneurs that supports collaboration and partnerships between large food companies and startups. In other words, they drive growth by partnering with those new food companies.

To qualify, companies must be an integrated entity with an active website. These must exist for less than 15 years and must be included in the definition of forward fooding of "Agrifoodtech". The company described Agrifoodtech as an "emerging sector that seeks to improve efficiency and sustainability in food design, production, selection, distribution and enjoyment."

Companies are ranked by three parameters: financial institutions, digital presence and sustainability. Applicants are then given three separate scores which give each finalist a score of 300

According to the Forward Fooding website, 786.2 percent of companies are under five years of age and 56.51 percent are in pre-seed or seed-level financing. But about 75 percent are already earning revenue.

Forward Fooding claims that 1,200 applications from 54 different countries will be on the list. Here are the top five:
